Where can I find out if a CRM system is hosted (on demand) or on-premise (behind the fire-wall)?

So my sister wants me to be more specific. I’m trying to determine between our data being in-house (price based per license), or our data being housed/owned by the vendor (price normally based per month per user).

Hi:
Most of the CRM vendors provide both On Demand as well as inhouse licenses.
CRM may be hosted and may not be on demand. That is you can buy licenses from the CRM company and host it on the internet on your own in a subdomain or domain of your own.
If you host it the url looks like or
And now if it is On Demand, the url comes with the company specific subdomain. something like
So at this moment you can find out whether it is OnDemand or not by the URL. And if the CRM is within the firewall you cannot see it from outside. So you cannot decide.
